Vitamin C is one of the most requested ingredients in skincare and one of the hardest to formulate well. Most formulas oxidise long before the bottle is finished, which is why a serum that keeps its potency matters more than the percentage on the label. This one is built around stabilised L-ascorbic acid held together by botanically derived ferulic acid, which is what stops it turning brown and inert in a bathroom cabinet.
It is the most concentrated brightening step Eminence makes, and at 1 oz it lasts a long time because you need very little.
Who it suits
Anyone dealing with dullness, uneven tone, post-blemish marks or early fine lines. It is formulated for all skin types including sensitive, which is unusual for a vitamin C at this strength — most reactive skins cannot tolerate a straight L-ascorbic serum. If your skin is very reactive, start every second morning.
What is in it, and why
- Stabilised Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) — the active doing the brightening work; helps reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles
- Sodium ascorbyl phosphate — a gentler vitamin C salt that converts to ascorbic acid on the skin, so the formula works over a longer window
- Botanical ferulic acid — the stabiliser; keeps the vitamin C potent instead of oxidising
- Vitamin E — works alongside vitamin C and supports the appearance of skin health
- Leafy greens (kale, spinach, broccoli sprouts) — antioxidants that help the look of elasticity and hydration
- Citrus oils (lemon, grapefruit) — naturally occurring vitamin C; tones and refreshes
- Avocado and botanical hyaluronic acid — the hydrating base, so the serum does not feel stripping
How to use it
Apply to cleansed skin before moisturiser. A small amount covers the face and neck — more is not better with vitamin C. Most people see the clearest results using it in the morning under SPF, since vitamin C and sunscreen work well together. Keep the bottle out of direct light.
