Booking your first head spa or facial and not sure what you’re walking into? Here’s exactly what to expect at Unwind, from the moment you book to the moment you float back out onto King West.
In this article
A first visit to any new studio comes with small uncertainties — where to go, what to wear, what’s actually going to happen. We want your first time at Unwind to feel effortless from the very start, so here’s a complete walk-through. By the time you arrive, the only thing left to do will be relax.
Whether you’ve booked a head spa, a facial, or our signature package, the rhythm of the visit is much the same.
Before you arrive
Booking
The easiest way to book is online — choose your treatment, your therapist, and a time that suits you. You’ll get a confirmation with everything you need. If you’re unsure which treatment to choose, our guides to the head spa experience and choosing a facial can help.
What to wear
Come as you are. For a head spa, your hair will get wet, so leave elaborate styling for another day. For a facial, anything comfortable works — we’ll keep products away from your collar. There’s nothing you need to bring.
When to arrive
Arriving five minutes early lets you settle, use the washroom, and start the treatment relaxed rather than rushed. If it’s your first visit, those few minutes also give us time to get the paperwork out of the way.
Arriving at the studio
You’ll find us on the second floor at 317 King Street West, in the heart of King West. From the moment you step in, the pace shifts — soft lighting, quiet music, and none of the bright, clinical feel of a typical salon. We’ll welcome you, offer you somewhere to settle, and give you a moment before we begin.
Your consultation
Every first treatment starts with a short consultation. Your therapist will ask about your scalp or skin, any concerns or sensitivities, allergies, and what you’re hoping to get from the session. This isn’t a formality — it’s how the treatment gets tailored to you, from the products chosen to the pressure used. Be honest about anything relevant; it only makes the result better.
The treatment
Then you simply relax. You’ll recline comfortably while your therapist works — cleansing, massaging, treating, and finishing at an unhurried pace. There’s no small talk expected; most guests drift into a half-asleep calm within minutes, and that’s exactly the point. If anything ever feels too warm, too cool, or too firm, just say so — your comfort guides the whole session.
There’s nothing you need to do during your treatment except let go. The rest is our job.
Ready for your first visit?
Booking takes about sixty seconds. Choose your treatment and we’ll take care of the rest.
Book your visit →Afterward and aftercare
When the treatment ends, take your time getting up — many guests feel pleasantly dazed. Your therapist will share any simple aftercare: for a head spa, your hair will be towel-dried and lightly styled; for a facial, we’ll suggest keeping your routine gentle for the rest of the day and wearing sunscreen. Drink some water, and ease back into your day slowly if you can.
The practical details
A few things that are good to know: we’re a five-minute walk from St Andrew Station, with paid street parking on Adelaide West and Green P lots nearby. We accept card and contactless payment. Phones on silent are appreciated — this is meant to be your hour away from the screen. And if you ever need to reschedule, just give us at least 24 hours’ notice so we can offer the spot to someone else.

What first-timers often worry about
A few small anxieties come up again and again, so let’s put them to rest. You don’t need to make conversation — most guests go quiet within minutes, and that’s completely welcome. It’s also fine to fall asleep; plenty of people do, and it’s a sign you’re exactly as relaxed as you should be. You won’t be upsold or pressured into anything during your treatment — any product or rebooking suggestions come gently, afterward, and only if you ask. And if at any point something doesn’t feel right, saying so is always welcome; your therapist would far rather adjust than have you lie there uncomfortable.
Can I fit it into a workday?
Our King West location makes us easy to reach from the downtown core, so a treatment before work, at lunch, or on the way home is very doable — a facial or deep-cleanse head spa fits neatly into a longer break. Just keep in mind that a head spa leaves your hair damp, so if you’re heading back to the office you may want to allow a little time, or book a treatment that doesn’t involve a full wash. When in doubt, mention your schedule when you book and we’ll suggest the best option.
Frequently asked questions
How early should I arrive for my first appointment?
About five minutes early is perfect — enough to settle and handle first-visit paperwork without feeling rushed.
Do I need to prepare my hair or skin beforehand?
No. Come as you are — for a head spa it’s fine to arrive with a day or two of natural oil, and for a facial there’s no preparation needed beyond skipping strong actives for a day if you’re planning extractions.
Is tipping expected?
Tipping is always appreciated but never expected. If you’d like to, card and cash are both welcome.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Just let us know at least 24 hours ahead so we can offer the time to someone else. Late cancellations may incur a fee, which we’ll always explain clearly at booking.
